New Beginnings

I would like to firstly wish Hume Sweet Hume all the very best of luck for the future in the shop.  I am looking forward to seeing new brands alongside our customer favourites Lily and Me, Alison Moore Jewellery, Ichi, White leaf plus a few more.
If you are looking for our own ranges in Orkney they will soon be stocked in the following shops – Hume Sweet Hume will stock our knitwear range Mixter Maxter, The Longship will stock our Mixter Maxter accessories and kids range and Sheila Fleet with stock the Kirsteen Stewart print accessories collections.  And in Stromness both ranges will continue to be stocked at The Pier Art Centre.
Both collections will also be available on our websites www.kirsteenstewart.com  and   www.mixtermaxter.com – follow us on Facebook or Instagram or sign up for our newsletters to keep up to date with our designs, developments and events.
As both the retail side and the design side of my business have grown, I realised this time last year that I needed to make a decision.   It became clear that I couldn’t expand all aspects of the business with only 7 days in a week.  I have worked hard to make the shop a popular venue for local customers and visitors in Orkney.  Each year we have held events, launches and Kirkwall Bid shopping days.  Over the years we have been involved in a number of fashion shows and have raised £10,000 for charity.  In the meantime, behind the scenes in our studio above the shop, the Kirsteen Stewart collection branched out and we rebranded the Knitwear collection as Mixter Maxter to accommodate the request from buyers. I attend trade shows in London, Paris and Tokyo and we sell to buyers across these regions.  This year we launch a new home wear range and add to the Mixter Maxter kids collection.  In order to give the best service to all our customers I made the decision to sell the retail part of my business.   I was pleased to find a local company Hume Sweet Hume, were looking to expand into retail in Kirkwall.  They will, I have no doubt follow on from where I started but with their own individual style and flare.

I will really miss the daily contact with local customers, hearing how they and their families are getting on, but I am not going far as I will continue to work from our studio above the shop and I’m really excited to share with you all our upcoming collaborations, new collections and events.  With a little more time these will be better than ever before.  You have all been integral to the growth and expansion of this business and I appreciate each and everyone of you for making this business what it is today. You are all invited to continue being integral to it and continue to engage with use in every possible way.
So to the end of one era and the beginning of the next one – here goes!
