A little bit from Mark “for more what brought me to Orkney it’s the classic came here for a weeks holiday end of November and had moved here by August, just fell in love with the place! I have always been fascinated with knots having made my first little key fob back in the mid 60’s when I moved here I found a big bundle of rope washed up on the beach, untangled it and made myself a mat, then my sister wanted one then someone else…………I have now used 9 miles of old fishing rope and turned it into mats, the name Afrayedknot seemed a little more suitable than ‘Money for old rope’ and I have run workshops to teach others how to make their own mats, most of these are on a ‘as and when’ basis on a 1:1 or 2:1 and with the current restriction that’s likely to be the case for the foreseeable future.”
