What’s been happening behind the scenes
It may have appeared a little quiet over the past months as work has been going on behind the scenes. This year, I have been taking part in the Saltire Fellowship which is a business course through Entrepreneurial Scotland. It not only was an opportunity to reflect on how far the business has come, but it has enabled me to look at the future of my business. The fashion industry has changed greatly over the past 10 years and will continue to do so due to customer demands, designer burnout (due to the increased number of seasons required), and most importantly of all, due to sustainability issues. The amazing Stacey Dooley documentary “Fashion’s Dirty Secrets” brought home the negative impact that fashion has on our planet. So I asked myself what can we do and is our production helping or hindering this problem?
Based on the environmental research that I have carried out, I wanted to make positivechanges to our production methods. Being a small business gives you the agility to do this. So I began to ask more questions, and as a result of these investigations , I’ve firstly found a solution which cuts down on our waste. Introducing our print-to-order collection. All made in the UK – when you order these items they are made especially for you. Less waste, less chemicals and lower footprint. But still using quality fabrics and at the best prices.
Earlier this year Ingrid initiated a collaboration with our sister brand Mixter Maxter and the University of Strathclyde. This enabled us to begun to dig deep to find environmentally friendly solutions for our knitwear products at our sister brand. This is something we aim to do with other materials and products for all our Kirsteen Stewart products. But in the meantime, we would like to put this over to you and hear about your ideas on the topic. Do you want to get involved in swaps, and/or second hand purchasing? Have you got a great idea that we can help with? Please let us know.
Thank you for your continued support.
